Paul Melba is one of the great ‘born’ entertainers. A gifted comic and raconteur, he is to many people the all-round impressionist par excellence, whose natural voice can outsing many of the innumerable stars he recreates on stage.
In the beginning it was the television series ‘Who Do You Do’, that put him firmly at the top of the ratings. This led in turn to him appearing in the Val Doonican series and, of course, The Comedians.
Success continued to grow, his versatility not surprisingly leading to a series of requests for him to ‘voice over’ television and other commercials.
As well as guest television spots too numerous to mention, Paul has frequently topped the bill at the Lakeside Country Club, Camberley, perhaps the most prestigious night club in the UK.
The big accolades followed swiftly – two Royal Command Performances as well as further appearances at the Palladium and Drury Lane, also a six week run of his own show at the Talk of the Town.
After a recent show in South Africa, Paul was acclaimed by the press as ‘the best impressionist in the world’, just one of many rave reviews he has been given wherever he has appeared throughout the world from Dubai to Detroit, from Hong Kong to Los Angeles. Away from terra firma some of the more relaxing work has been aboard cruise liners including Cunard’s Q.E.2, Princess and Countess, and P & O’s Oriana and Canberra.
In a career which grows from strength to strength, one of Paul’s proudest moments was being invited, by personal request, to make an extended solo appearance before the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace.
After so many years in the theatre and being let loose on the world at large, it comes as no surprise that yet another career has opened up for Paul. Increasingly he is being requested to appear as function guest, in the role of celebrity and after dinner speaker, where his wit and talents as a raconteur are being seen as the fitting climax to the big celebratory occasion.
